Hello again!
We have just updated the site with a few pics, so check our previous posts!
Unfortunately (because the camera was really full of pics!) we had no space for new pictures, but we will get some more and add them to this post asap.
From La Spezia, we travelled on to our next place of stay, Santa Margherita, a small coastal town which was beautiful and great to explore. Unfortunately, the weather was only good for a couple of hours before cloud and rain (and 13 degree temperatures!) set in. Ah well, we still loved this place!
The hotel, Nuovo Riviera, where we would stay for three nights, was very basic, but later we soon found it to be noisy and extremely cold! It did the job though.
On day 2, the weather hadn't improved, but we still decided to venture out to Camogli, but didn't stay long here... it wasn't quite as nice as we would have hoped.
The next day, the weather looked up, and we headed to Portofino - a small village of 574 population which was a pretty picture. We found a trail which lead up the cliffs to the castle nearby, and then continued to 'Il Faro', the lighthouse from which we had glorious ligurian views!
After exploring the village, and sampling its fine cuisine, we headed back to base.
Next, on to Alassio. We arrived at 2pm after a lengthy morning journey. The hotel Adler ***(!) was ok with ensuite and balcony and breakfast included too. It turned out to be a lot quieter than our previous accommodation too, although our room overlooks the busy train line (and the mountains!!)
That leads us to today. We took a train to Cervo this morning, but left disappointed. It was nothing like our guide books had described: "a village ringed with walls and towers". Instead, it was a largish town with a distinct drainage problem (sort of like clacton on sea says Rich!) Ah well, we eventually escaped, and ended up writing this update in this cafe in Alassio.
Today the weather is fine, and this afternoon we plan to lounge on the beach for a while.
We would like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Chris as well - you know who you are, you cheeky bugger ;) You'd feel at home here as the Panda seems to be the weapon of choice - we have seen Police, Army, and fire Pandas (a good pursuit vehicle, I'm sure)
We hope everyone's ok back in the uk. Keep posting, and we will when we can.
Love Katie and Rich.
